The Internet of Things, or IoT, is quickly becoming an area of focus for many businesses. As it grows, we’re noticing an alarming trend of companies attempting to create proprietary systems to both lock in customers and lock out competitors. Instead of building open, interoperable systems we’re seeing disparate “Internet of My Things” islands.

The IoT Connect Model (IoTCM) is an attempt to prevent this from becoming a common practice. We believe that if all systems, regardless of industry or vendor, can “talk” in common terms then we can all spend time innovating and building features. We believe that data should become a commodity and that analytics and services is where the value should lie.

We are committed to creating, implementing and testing a free and open protocol definition useful to all industries and all developers, big and small, and to this end we provide free and open SDKs and reference applications that implement both the Hosting and Client side of the specification.

If you are wondering what development is currently happening, is planned, or if you're wanting to volunteers some time, take a look at the Implementation Matrix.
